Gen V lasted from Q3 2010 to Q3 2013
Gen VI lasted from Q3 2013 to Q4 2016.
Gen VII began in Q4 2016.

My point was that Gen VI was killed off no quicker than Gen V.
I'm also inclined to believe that there's no reason why the only let a generation around for 2 years then ditch it.

You're forgetting one key factor. Back in the days prior to Gen 6, Pokemon games were released in Japan an ENTIRE YEAR before the rest of the world. Therefore, generations we're artificially longer due to localization

Gen 5 and Gen 6 lasted the same amount of time, so localization time doesn't factor into the length of a generation.

Yeah. BW came out in Q3 2010 in Japan, and Q1 2011 elsewhere. Not that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

Well, okay you got a point there, but in any case, this is still not a good argument for Gen VII continuing.
If we want to use the muh patterns argument, then ever since Gen 5, we've only had 2 sets games per generation

It's a guess. This game won't be announced any later than April. TPC needs to formally announce Zeraora before they announce Gen VIII. Zeraora will be announced at any point between now and mid April; Mythicals tied to movies are usually revealed in February, while Marshadow was revealed in April last year.

Still, point is that you shouldn't try to use prior patterns for determining this. Hell, R/S was realized in Nov. 2002, Diamond Pearl came out in Sept. 2006! We have precedent of a 4 year long generation!
