But yeah, being the voice of reason without being a stiff made him really flexible, which is great for an anything goes show like this, and his need to be his own (16 year old) man and see the world to color in his dream gave him plenty reason to tag along, too.

So anime viewers fill me in, jumped ship in early RS here, did anything ever come of the fact that Brock had been traveling with Ash thrice as long as anyone else? I remember liking the way he and Ash took charge against Shedinja-stache, and was glad he was still around to see Ash finally beat Paul (episode hopping, still in the dark). I can't imagine it would do much more than that, with the anime doing everything in its power to stifle its own continuity post-Johto.

I'm not sure what you mean here, Brock is still friends with Ash as seen in his recent SM cameo, and he knows about Ash's accomplishes more than anyone else of course, but it doesn't really matter since the anime more or less does fresh starts every series.

I actually started watching the anime towards the end of Hoenn and stopped shortly after the end of Sinnoh because my parents got rid of cable.

I think I was, like, 8 or 9 when I started.

I think I also ordered the original Kanto series from Netflix back when they did that in.....'13? or '12, can't remember, but it was somewhere around that time.
