Was ariados for me in pokemon silver. There was actually a section of the game it did okay, but not having any bug stab sucked. I even wasted sludge bomb on it to try and boost its power but come the elite four it did nothing but faint to whatever i sent it out against. Poor thing

I had a Gliscor as well which made it even more pointless as Gliscor is ridiculously good when half of the most dangerous mons lategame are Fighting types with coverage Swoobat could not hope to compete against. In the end I only kept Swoobat out of sentimentality and it didn't see a single battle after Route 23 was completed.

Shuckle, most recently. I think going for wrap/sandstorm chip damage wasn't really the best option I had available.

But sometimes a 'mon that was great before the E4 just ends up doing nothing out of coincidence. Dodrio did this to me in FRLG.

Other times, a 'mon that was hard to train ends up saving my ass. Wobbuffet did this in Emerald.

Togekiss in Platinum.
