the pokemon, yes. Their models are future proofed. At most I could see them upgrading textures at some point but that's it. The human models will probably be replaced tho since they were recruiting 3d modelers some time ago.

They have some pretty nice textures already. The 3DS is no good at showing them off and has lower resolution versions, but better textures are already visible in the 3D Pokedex thing and in Pokemon GO.
What they really need to do is add more and better animations. Considering they already have the models complete and rigged, it shouldn't take much effort to fix things like the fucking gliding birds.

The models are fine, I just wish they gave them more animations and character/personality instead of just standing there, give them different animations for each nature, timid - have them shy away, jolly - have them move around full of energy, Bold - Have them stand proud and stern, Adamant - have them look intense etc, it means work but it'll make them feel more alive and give them personality

Of course they will, all Gamefreak needs to do is use higher res textures and proper shaders. The mesh data itself is fine in HD.

Too much work.
Not even in a "GameFreak is lazy" sense. More of a "926 monster models made for posterity is more reasonable than drawing and redrawing them frame by fucking frame" sense.

They'll have to either retexture everything or keep the same artstyle as the DS games, since they're designed with a cartoon artstyle in mind. With a standard shader, they end up look like toys.
