HM slaves arent that big of a nuisance. the only HM youll be using the most is surf, and the easiest solution to that is keeping a water type on your team at all times (watermons cover a lot of common types anyway). everything else is often used at least once or twice for a dungeon, and once thats done you can easily box them until another time. its frustrating carrying a HM slave, sure, but you have five other pokemon you actually want to use, so the wasted sixth slot isnt that big of a deal.
gen 7 is the slowest gen for me. technically gen 4 is slower, but everything there is slow so i can easily adjust to that because i know it wont go fast anytime soon. with gen 7, it fluctuates between having fast walking speed and battles, to slow cutscenes that i dont even care for. and between that, the lack of content and how specific battles have terrible framerate issues, i get really frustrated with gen 7 more than the others.
