As the other poster said, DP has a much stronger emphasis on the Pokemon and their bonds with their trainers. The Pokemon all kind of took a backseat to the humans in XY, with the exception of Greninja (who was often treated as an extension of Ash more than a character in and of itself).

Fair enough. But elements like group dynamic and character development were dealt better by XY. Even the villainous team felt like a real threat.

DP was pretty much exactly what you'd expect a show about people training monsters to fight to be. The conflicts would usually come from the Ash or Dawn being presented with a contest or battle problem, then spending several episodes trying to work out a way to solve it. There was almost always a subplot like that going on at any given time, so you got to see the Pokemon slowly grow throughout the season. The reason Ash and Paul's final battle is usually held as the best battle in the series is because it's the culmination of everything that happened during the season. Every strategy and move used was something you watched Ash spend episodes trying to come up with earlier in the series. There were even episodes dedicated to Paul learning new strategies from copying what Ash was doing.

DP has a sense of progression beyond "Ash got his sixth badge, so he's 6/8 of the way to the league". No other series has managed to do that nearly as well.

We can agree that DP is a well-constructed and planned series, unlike XY, but this one has very good animated fights, but the development and lack of challenge for the characters, for me XY is the perfect wasted potential

The Kalos League has an god development is one of the best league, Satoshi (Ash Ketchum) strive and work daily with his single starter pokémon "Keromatsu to Satoshi Gekkouga" and his 5 Pokémon (Pikachu, Fiarrow, Luchabull, Numelgon, Onvern) in Kalos region. Honestly, Satoshi deserved to completely win the Kalos League, be a champion and celebrate his dream fulfilled with his loved ones, people, fans and the world. He take the next step in fulfill his dreams and pokémon master.

The Sinnoh League was good but it was spoiled by Ash having two starters (instead of he have a single starter pokemon of the region) and his rival Tobias (rival of last minute without development before and in the league) uses Legendary at time: traps/cheats/hacks.
