Originally, Clefairy was supposed to be the mascot. But then the anime went with Pikachu instead, and he proved to be far more popular.

First thing I always did as a kid was to look for one in Viridian Forest. It was always a delight to see its sprite, hear that cry and welcome it to my party.
Talking about Gen1, I remember wondering about its white belly in the first games a lot but I always thought - and still think - it looks cute that way, too. Actually, looking at it now, white belly Pikachu looks even cuddlier to me than final Pikachu, somehow. I'd buy a big, fat, cuddly pre-yellow Pikachu plushie if they'd ever make one.

Not my favorite Pokemon, but I still like it a lot even to this day.

I like it. Not too keen on ash's, but I still like pikachu as a whole. The design is great and it's probably the one of, if not the best, Pokemon they could have picked as a mascot at the time.

I collect merch and all the pikachu stuff, especially the generic plush or poncho ones get kind of old. But the special promos make up for it.

Strikes an amazing balance between magical fantasy animal and realistic creature, cute little thing and tough battle beast, as well as asian-looking but not too animu of a design. It has a lot of things going for it as the icon of the franchise.

Actually, it really is one of gen-1's best designs, has a lot of mass appeal, and is well deserving of being the series mascot. A little overexposed, and I do like Raichu better, but I still believe it's one of the standouts.

I especially liked how it was portrayed on Generations. Looked somehow cuter to me, or maybe just because it was a different take on it after decades of Ash's.

I do! I remember drawing/copying pic related once as a kid, because I liked it so much. What a throwback.

Do we know where they come from, or is there like a site that's got them all? I kind of wanna save them, just in case.
