His only victories are still the Orange League and Battle Frontier, both of which were made while waiting on GS and DP to be released respectively.
Chances are after XY, Ash will leave Alola before the League is established so they don't have to have another one of THOSE moments until everyone aside from autists like myself forget all about it so they can safely have him choke at Gen 8's League.

It's heavily implied that the league will be done by the time Ash finishes his trials - which seem to be drawn out now.
There has to be an endgame for his trial partaking.
