this. The only remake that worked was FRLG because there were so many important changes made from Gen 1 to Gen 3. They essentially fixed everything wrong with the original games. Every other remake has just been a pointless touch up that doesn't address the problems of the original, or in some cases, adds more problems.
The only changes a DP remake would add would be pointless ones like megas that don't really address the issues of the original games.

I don't even want to play the old games just because of they don't have the physical/special split. I don't like Gyarados having to use it's 60 Sp.Atk to use it's water moves instead of instead of it's 125 attack, along with other pokemon examples. Also there were no abilities in Gen 2 either, so the remake also added abilities. But I do also think that it's pointless to make a Gen 4 remake since not much has changed since then. But I know they're going to do it anyway, and I'd rather have remakes than enhanced versions like USUM.

If remakes ARE coming, they're going to be on the Switch. They already went on record saying that USUM are going to be the last mainline games on the 3DS, and the 3DS is on its way out anyway.

It also makes business sense to have the gen 4 remakes be on the Switch as well since with the Switch they'll be able to test out the new graphical capability the home console would bring as opposed to the 3DS's limited capabilities while not having to come up with an entirely new region to boot: the groundwork for Sinnoh is already there, they just have to bring it into HD.

TL;DR gen 4 remakes will happen on the switch as a way to "test the waters" so to speak for the future generation 8 games.

You never had that option. Only Flying type move Gyarados could learn before the split was Hidden Power and 9 times out of 10, the one you catch won't have it. Are you seriously saying you used to catch a bunch of magikarp and evolve them all, and then give them hidden power to check, until you got the right one, just for the normal game?

Just looked on Smogon, Its one set they showed for Gen 1 had a choice between Surf and Blizzard, and they say Blizzard is the better choice. I don't know the stats and what was the most used or effective, but looking at all the gens, looks like the most popular/best option was to not use water moves, besides that it was UU for the first 2 gens showing how bad it was.

The physical/special split is about more than just giving you an appropriate STAB and that reason is still important enough in-game.

>prior to the split there was no indication to players in-game as to which types dealt physical/special damage
>NPC's regularly use boosting moves and x.boost items
Guessing which type is the right one to get around a defense boost is not fun for players. Neither is getting walled by defensive boosts because you're having to run special moves on a physical mon for coverage
>Contact introduced in Gen 3 along with contact based abilities; a move being physical is an obvious indicator to a player that its likely to make contact
>More diverse movepools; special/physical split allows for more moves per type and more options for players
>Not having an appropriate STAB breaks some mons; Sneasel has only special stab pre-gen IV which is debilitating even in game. Sneasel is a pokemon that needs to be 1-2HKO'ing shit or it will die from taking hits it shouldn't be; why shouldnt players be able to use the mons they like at their most effective?

There are so many reasons the split is important and so many ways it improves the player experience. The most important one is that this is a kids game. The special/physical split is an easy to understand concept that encourages players to think proactively about the moves they choose and how they formulate their team.

Those TM's aren't available until later into the game though. No Psychic move at all and highest special Ice move is 40 bp until level 55. She doesn't get any non-stab special moves via level up either and her attack stat is 55.

More to the point TM's were single use in Gen IV.

They're both available at the Veilstone Game Corner in DPPt and Ice Beam is available at the Goldenrod Game Corner in HGSS. Although, I don't blame you for not wanting to play that shit-tier card game for 10k coins. I'm surprised about Psychic in HGSS though; I thought it was available before the Elite Four. Celadon seems to be a really long time for such a staple TM.

All the stories people have of playing gen 3 says otherwise. So many people were confused why Shadow Ball did dick for damage for them.

You know, even though it was objectively worse than the slots, at least there was a bit of brainpower involved, and I don't know how, but my autistic self figured out how to do it well back when I was 11. I couldn't put the rules into words for the life of me, but it was a combination of basic math and simple process of elimination. I remember getting to one of the last levels. But it was, you'd have to memorize which types were special or physical and certain pokemon, like Mightyena or Sneasel,not only that but they had movesets that didn't make sense with their base stats.

Confusion point is not irrelevant. Irrelevant is you pointing out that you personally found the game easy enough prior to the split.

Everything I said is still valid so here it is again for you:

Guessing which type is the right one to get around a defense boost is not fun for players. Neither is getting walled by defensive boosts because you're having to run special moves on a physical mon for coverage
>Contact introduced in Gen 3 along with contact based abilities; a move being physical is an obvious indicator to a player that its likely to make contact
>More diverse movepools; special/physical split allows for more moves per type and more options for players
>Not having an appropriate STAB breaks some mons; Sneasel has only special stab pre-gen IV which is debilitating even in game. Sneasel is a pokemon that needs to be 1-2HKO'ing shit or it will die from taking hits it shouldn't be; why shouldnt players be able to use the mons they like at their most effective?
>Encourages players to look at a pokemons stats and choose moves around those instead of its typing; will help them for battle tree/tower/maison/battlespot if they are new to series

There are so many reasons the split is important and so many ways it improves the player experience. The most important one is that this is a kids game. The special/physical split is an easy to understand concept that encourages players to think proactively about the moves they choose and how they formulate their team.

I think the reason it gets so much hate is because it's the conclusion to what had been happening to the game corner for generations. Instead of adding more variety and making everything more fun, an iconic part of the games was eventually neutered down to some old dude sitting alone in some room who you play cards against. Not such a bad thing by itself, but it's a bit of an ultimate letdown. I also didn't mind it so much. It would have been one of my favorite additions to the remakes if they hadn't gone full soccer mom on the rest of the GC.

I think the split also allowed them more freedom to create moves and mons. Before, it would have been redundant to create an 80 power water move with 100 accuracy while a 95 power water move with 100 accuracy already existed. cough With the split, they have more ways to create mons and moves that have more unique stylistic and mechanical niches.

Again, this is a UI problem. It has nothing to do with the actual mechanics. If they left the UI the same but introduced the split it would be even MORE confusing. The split isn't important at all for in-game purposes. The strategies are DIFFERENT now but they're not any more or less deep than they were before.

You can't even argue this. No one had an issue with the games prior to the split and even since it, no casual players go "oh god i'm glad the split exists or else i wouldn't have been able to do that"

I was excited about the split back when it first came out and I was in Elementary school and never played competitive, the core casual audience, little kid who never played comp. So there goes that. Also the split does make a difference in game because it allows you to utilize your stab moves better, which can save you a ton of time. Also it's just stupid for certain moves not to be physical or special just because of their type.

Yes it does I already explained it. It lets you utilize your Stabs better. Doesn't matter if you can still win without it, you can still win doing a lot of ridiculous stuff like nuzlocking, but most people don't want to play a nuzlocke. It also saves time since your attacks do more damage.

Well I guess it's just opinion if you think it's worth caring about. Personally I'd rather have my attacks doing good damage, rather than the game taking twice the amount of time, regardless of if I wind up winning in both scenarios.

yes which is why I liked it when my alakazam had elemental punches to hit many things super effectively as opposed to having fuck all to use in gen 4

I think it's because in gen 1-3 there were cases where almost every ice, electric move would have been special after the split anyway so changing it later didn't do much to older moves
