Well, I remember the last time I played, Erika spent a good portion of the fight trying to poison my Weepinbell. And the champion kept using Whirlwind and Roar with his Pidgeot and Arcanine. It wasn't so much an AI as it was an RNG that could count from 1 to 4.

Maybe the reason they designed her specifically to switch so much was because one of her Gengar had Dream Eater but no Hypnosis because apparently the genius replaced it with Toxic. Probably would have been better to just not do that, though.

Other hilarious moveset shenanigans include Koga having Explosion on his last and strongest pokemon (Weezing) and using it on the first turn, losing instantly.

Anon worded it shittily but it's because of the way Gen I ran type calculations. Grass being weak to Poison was listed before Poison being resistant to poison, so the AI saw "this is poison and that is grass" and spammed it. same reason why displays for SE/NVE hits were fucked

What I should have said was that the reason why Erika tried to poison your Weepinbell was because it was grass. But because it was also Poison it had no effect therefore you could abuse the AI without taking any damage.

The same thing happened with Lance (before Yellow) where he'd spam Agility / Barrier if you used a Poison type on him.
