> Hit the Pokemon craze FUCKING HARD right at the start of gen 1. When Red and Blue were out I was all the fuck over it like it was life itself
> Every day at school, playing the games with anyone I possibly could.
> TCG out the ass fucking everywhere. Kids with binders full of cards, boosters, Pokemon TCG clubs, every recess and lunch break was just Pokemon card mania
> Gameboys and link cables everywhere
> Had "The Official Pokemon handbook" and never went anywhere without it
> Had tapes/VHS of the TV show, the movies, everything I could get my hands on
> Burger King toys, plushes, t shirts, hair clips, bracelets, shoes, keychains, if it had a Pokemon on it I wanted it
> Cans of Pokemon pasta, Pokemon cereal, Pokemon Eggo waffles, Pokemon pop tarts
> Gold Pokemon Cards that you could buy when the first movie came out
> Seeing the first movie in theaters about eight times
> Seeing the second movies in theaters even more just to get that dope ass Mew card
> No matter who the fuck you ever met you could have a common interest in Pokemon
> Even my parents knew some of them, remembered the names of my favourites, and indulged me somewhat in my obsessons
By the time the Gameboy Advance was around and RSE had come out, the hype had mostly died and people moved on. I never once in my life have eased up on my love for Pokemon for even a second, so I was playing Ruby on my GBA in high school as much and as often as Red back as a kid, but people thought I was dumb/stupid/weird for "still liking" a "kid's game" like Pokemon. I went through Gens 3-6 pretty much alone in my love for the series but it seems like XY and SM/USUM have brought Pokemon back into the spotlight again.
It will never, ever, EVER be the same as way back in the day though. Fucking never.
