Pokemon Switch has new battle mode: Switch Battle. 1v1 but with a second Pokemon on the field that can only target its ally and can't be targeted directly by the opponent. Second Pokemon is in the Switch Position and can perform different special abilities called Bonus Switches in place of the primary Pokemon attacking.
Block Switch temporarily switches in on an attack so the primary Pokemon doesn't get damaged. Boost Switch temporarily switches in to boost one of its ally's stats. Bounce Switch reflects the effects of the opponent's attack to its own Switch ally. Blast Switch forces the opponent's Switch Pokemon to be switched out with another on its team (like Roar).
Each Bonus Switch requires SP (Switch Points) to be used, which accumulate between turns.
This region's pikaclones are actually Plusle and Minun evolutions: Emposi and Dennegi. They have new abilities that affect ally stats if they're in the Switch position. The boost is greater if the ally is Emposi/Dennegi. I'm assuming they'll be revealed relatively early in the release cycle since they're sort-of regional mascots and are good demonstrators of the new battle mode (and also show that the new region will again have new evolutions like in Diamond and Pearl).
