Nothing. They just decided the movies can go a different direction for art direction and character design than begging Sugimori to make everything look official.

The movies, let alone the anime no longer adhering to a certain style in no way affects the core experience of the original games.

The movie seems to be focusing on Slice of life elements. sounds like its gonna revolve around the characters , rather than the pokemon and that's a good thing. Its giving me the kyoani/ghibli vibes. This is a new territory for pokemon, Can't wait to see how they execute it.
