It's the anime, the manga, the TGC, the toys, etc. After a new gen comes out, all the current side products of the previous gen drop in value and people demand merch of the newer gen, this would hurt the anime production if done too early, and has already hurt pokemon special, the black white 2 arc STILL hasn't finished, because publishers demand work on a new arc based on the current gen starts.
There's specialists and professionals who have this shit figured out anon, 3 years minimum isn't a random pattern, and no matter how much autistic retards on /vp/ kick and scream, the games wont come out till 2019.
