It draws attention to oneself in a "hey look how cool I am" kind of way - even if that's not what you meant by it. That's why tripfags are historically only one of two kinds of people:
1. fags who like the spotlight on them all the time (see pic related)
2. People who are sharing something that requires a trip to do properly (eg. storytime, dumping, pokemon giveaways etc)
