Systems are never being planned to be updated, current systems will be supported far into the future, and the new system won't completely replace the old system. Back in 2012, news of a new 3DS model leaked which Nintendo adamantly denied, and less than 3 weeks later, they announced the 3DS XL. I don't expect a switch mini to come out soon, but there's never any reason to believe anything Nintendo says about hardware updates.
