No the new 2DS XL has newer firmware that isn't stable for homebrew.

You also wouldn't be able to use online and pokebank anyways because those require the game to update itself to the newest firmware.

not too big of a deal, just borrow someone you know’s cart copy to update, or worst case scenario buy one from gamestop then return it. and desu i have multiple 3ds’s with cfw, pirated copies of pokemon games and a bunch of other shit that i’ve played online and updated from the pirated copy on and havent gotten a single ban yet, so, it’s really up to you if you wanna roll those dice ;*)

The latest 3ds software version is V11.6.0-39, and all of the 3ds family of systems run on the same OS. So you're fine with a new 2ds xl
