I've never played a Pokemon ROM hack before, but my friends and I often play through Nuzlockes together and have run out of main series games to play. Which one should I play and why? Right now I'm leaning towards pic related.

Is clover finished? i've been looking for something to play during classes cause i'm an autistic fuck and i'm not really a big fan of the look of GBA and more of a NDS should i still play clover or do you have another idea?

It's a pokemon engine made in RPG Maker for the PC. There is an extremely long-winded way to get RPG Maker games to play on mobile phones but it's ultimately not worth the effort.

The romhacking community hates Essentials because it's accessible and more versatile than hacking. If you've ever used RPG Maker then you already know how to use Essentials. It's retard-proof and that makes the effort put into learning disassembly or dealing with finnicky rom-editing programs look like a huge waste of time.

One infuriating thing about Essentials though is the file size. Even the most well optimized Essentials game will break 100MB and have thousands of uncompressed files to deal with. The only way around this is through a compressing program that triples the filesize and slows down an already slow loading time.
Meanwhile you'll never find a romhack go higher than 32MB; and it'll always just be the rom itself and the save file.

TL;DR: Essentials = PC, Romhack = GBA.

Also, the "Glorious Essentials Masterrace" poster doesn't care about fangames at all. He just spams that pic to annoy people. He's got a "Glorious Romhack Masterrace" pic on hand as well and he constantly shits up the Romhack/Fangame general just for the sake of making noise. The jannies will never do anything about him so just block the MD5s and hide reply stubs.

I like playing randomized runs of older games. Gives a fresh experience to veteran players. Imagine a world where igglypuff has a monster attack stat, is steel type, has shadow tag, and is an early game encounter when you don't have shit to hit it with. Fun times.

Its not an original game but I've been playing Pokemon Roaming Red lately. It's a heap of fun, you can start with any base form Pokemon in any major city and start your journey from there, levels of trainer/wild pokemon scale, so you can literally start anywhere.

Polished Crystal.
Has the Physical/Special Split. An expanded story for longer play.
Has Natures and Abilities (you can turn them off individually if you want), and you can even set all Pokemon's IVs to max. EVs work as Stat Experience from Gen 2, so you don't need to worry about that 510 cap during a playthrough.
The game features an expanded move list, as well as including cross-generation evolutions such as Honchkrow and Mismagius. Fairy type too. Fixed trade evolutions.
Buffs shitmons as well as plays with some Pokemon's typings. Meganium, Ledian, Sunflora, and MUCH MORE are actually usable. There's a whole list of changes right here:

If you don't like ROMs that fuck with core stats/types, you can turn that off too. But I think the expanded movepools stay the same.
It's very customizable with these settings before you play.

Play Pokemon Reloaded if you want real-time battles. You'd have to power through the broken Engrish and lousy story-writting though, the devs are Spanish. It's pretty complete, I have 100 hours in my main save and I haven't finished the main story yet, nor caught all the legendaries nor unlocked Battle Frontier. It has all Pokemon except Zeraora, 3 locations beyond the main region (so far) and once you beat the main league, you may challengue all 32 gym leaders from Kanto to Sinnoh and their respective Leagues. The music is garbage.

Seconding Polished Crystal. This is a good hack. Also the 3.0 beta is out which adds a lot of things, including custom tilesets that I'm not sure I like, but it's mostly good stuff.
