epitome of it just gets bigger. second stage could literally be one of the first stage done up for crufts. nicely drawn but not very imaginative. exactly the same colours on all three? no themes other than lemur+plant? starters ahve been more complex than that for years now. work in some hippy flower child aesthetics and play on it collecting flowers, or celtic nature god themes, anything. legs on the last stage look super weird but other than that they're decent anatomically.

The Gen 7 starters followed up the premises of their previous stages without literally just being the same thing but bigger

I.E. Decidueye followers up on its previous stage's archer theme, Incineroar follows up Torracat having strong front legs, and Primarina follows up on its previous stage's performer theme

No they don't. They all have a theme that develops as they evolve. None of them are "the same thing but bigger" in all three fucking stages.

The closest official starter that "just gets bigger" is Feraligatr but even that has a middle stage with a caveman theme randomly slapped on.

Actually, it is translated from Hinoarashi which derives from "storm of fire" or hi no arashi, but can also be hi "fire" and yama-arashi "porcupine". So... it still doesn't fit the mouse idea, because mouse is translated into nezumi in most cases.
