-Battle Style always on Set
-You cannot challenge a trainer with more pokemon than they have (if a trainer challenges you with one pokemon, you can only fight them with one, if your pokemon dies while your fivze other are alive, you lose, no switch allowed).
-Refresh doesn't heal status anymore, or give affection bonusus (those litterally broke Refesh to me)
-Healing at centers costs money (50$ and raising until 40k$ with 8 badges)
-Level caps: cannot level your pokemon past a certain point until you've reached a milestone, after the 8th badge the max level is 60 while npcs trainers go higher.

With how much they've been pushing the "hey these assholes are your best friends, like them" stuff they've been pushing in the last few games I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been any kind of "social link" mechanic yet.
I mean Gen II/HGSS was the closest, getting people's phone number for occasional bonuses and seeing NPC social events. More of that stuff would be nice, would make me care about the NPCs a lot more than just having them drag me around from cutscene to cutscene. Gen IV was really great with that, Platinum had a lot of NPC flavor.

Difficulty setting accessible from the beginning that can be toggled in game (so people can't say that kids will accidently lock into hard mode)

don't you also get extra events with some of the trial captains as well? Your idea surely sounds more interesting than, "hey your rival/gym leaders appear here on certain days go fight em again"

Skippable cutscenes
just more stuff to do like the mini pokemon snap in gen 7 that was nice
accessories your pokemon can wear in battle (even if just for certain pokemon if its first implemented)
smarter boss AI more likely to switch in a poor match up

maybe more focus on npc-driven sidequests. Make it so that doing the sidequest opens shortcuts or makes it somehow faster to go forward if you're going in blind (eg. helping the dude find a cute flabebe for his girlfriend makes you able to use his house as a shortcut to the place you'd get hm0X strength 3 routes earlier than you would, which makes it so you can plow through that cave you'd have to go on a roundabout way and revisit later with said hm).
