Its name was only changed to Plant in Spanish, French, and German. The Japanese, English, Italian, Korean, and Chinese versions all call it Grass.
And Kusa does basically mean "grass". It is different in that you can use it refer to weeds, and sometimes bushes or even bamboo. But you'd never use Kusa to refer to shit like trees, flowers, or vines. They used Kusa and Hagane (Steel) because Japanese lacks simple words for plants and metal that would look good as elemental type names in a kids game that doesn't use kanji. Most translations then just translated it literally.
