Is there anyone here who's so obsessed that they bought every single official mainline pokemon game ever? Which one is your favorite? I want to know from somebody with an unnecessary multitude of experience

I finished only yellow when it came out. Replayed it to death. Recently I bought emerald and every single game from gen 4 5 6 7 including a couple of ds lites and 2 2ds xls. Currently slogging through pearl and not liking it one bit. Some article posted in here mentioned that with every increase in animation theres a decrease in imagination. Having difficulty justifying purchases of gsc when I have hgss or rs when I have oras.

The abundance of fake cartidges is stopping me. I suppose I really should buy them to complete the collection, but I could just play them on an emulator since transferring pokemon from the games will be redundant due to oras haveing them all. Started the ebay search nevertheless.

I do have Ultra Moon but I was so disappointed by Sun and Moon that I haven't been able to bring myself to play it yet
just getting through Alola the second time was torture

this is really tough because there's a few I like a lot, but if forced to choose I'd pick Crystal
I loved that game so much as a kid and must have replayed it like 15 times, I have a lot of nostalgia for that game

other notable favorites are HGSS, BW&BW2, Platinum and FRLG

I also really like this romhack I played recently that just makes some minor changes to HGSS to make it more like Crystal

though I've emulated or borrowed some of the ones I haven't like Emerald and Plat.

The ones I bought as well as Emerald, Platinum, Moon, and Ultra Sun. I've also finished Colosseum, Explorers of Time, and Blue Rescue Team, though those are hardly mainline games.

Probably a tossup between Silver, Emerald, and SoulSilver. Gen 2 and 3 are definitely my favorites.

All of Gen 2 is really good. HeartGold and SoulSilver are probably the best games just standalone. Platinum is very fun, but maybe less so if you don't have another person to play with to use the cool multiplayer features. Pokemon White is fun but from the perspective of someone who already played a lot of Pokemon games and enjoyed the reboot aspect of it. Black and White have the best plots in the whole franchise.

Overall:
HG/SS (+G/S/C) Best gameplay.
Platinum Super fun as well.
Black/White best plot.

Those are my favorites.

I'm not a genwunner or anything but yeah... gen 7... S/M just weren't that great. X/Y weren't incredible either gameplay/plot wise but at least that felt excusable because they put so much effort into improving the graphics for that gen. S/M didn't really have any excuse.

yeah these are my same feelings, XY weren't great but since they were the first games after the jump to 3d I feel much more favorable towards them
SM were just not very good

and I had been more or less completely loving pokemon all the way through gen 5

I own pic related plus FireRed/Emerald carts.

I finished: Crystal, FireRed, Emerald, Diamond, Platinum, HGSS, BW1/2, X, Alpha Sapphire, Sun&Moon, Ultra Moon.

The 3DS games say mild violence maybe because the graphics look more realistic.

I've played them all and I'd say Ruby was my favorite since I reached 999hrs and drained the battery completely when I was in high school and the game was still fairly new at the time and I still own that very same copy and own every single gba(all loose but LG)/ds title(CiB). I'm currently trying to collect the mystery dungeon series for DS as well as the other ones like Ranger(own S. Of Almia) and dash, but do have Trozei and Conquest

All of them except G/S/C. I had Crystal but I just wasn't enjoying it back then so I threw it in storage, and since then I moved to the card game. Then I decided gave it a second try when it came out on the 3DS for nostalgia, and it made me remember why hated it so much, it just didn't really feel like a Pokemon game then and I doesn't now.

Probably D/P/Pt because a lot of my favorite Pokemon came from it, and I've probably spent more time in the underground area playing with friends than I did actually playing R/B/Y and FR/LG combined. Also of course the battle frontier.

R/S/E have a very special place in my heart because they brought me back into Pokemon from the utter disappointment G/S/C was for me. I have a lot of memories beating all the frontier leaders or whatever they were called and having a competition with my friends to see who could get all of the badges first.

Also Colosseum and Gale of Darkness were amazing, and I really hope to see another "spin-off" like it.

I appreciate the plot driven nature of the games I’ve mentioned. Diamond and pearl were the worst ones in my opinion, but platinum makes up for all their inadequacies. X/Y are worse than d/p were, and since we never got Z version, they were never allowed to get better.

Nothing has been worse for this franchise than moving away from a single third version. Black/white2 should have been gray. Ultrasun/ultramoon should have been one version
