IF they reboot it it will be ge8

or (even if its VERY unlikely) gen1 reremakes, as the gen1 remake are TECHNICALLY the oldest games right now without remakes. And restarting with gen1 would make sense.

and NO, Kanto references and HGSS dont count, as that Kanto is not the same as gen1 Kanto (for example: its missing the pokemon tower and cinnebar island is destroyed)

following the "narrative" of the new games in sinnoh there would be good connections talking about multiuniverses, wormhole.. and in SM and USUM there are many quotes about the legendaries of sinnoh infact
