That'd be extremely dull. I'd prefer they have a story but it be minimal and subtle with tons of lore.

Personally think they can do better than follow this format they've done again and again. If you break it down to the core, they're just the RPG equivalent to dungeons and boss fights. They can be a lot more creative.

I used to not be a huge fan of following pokemon cause it just seemed like a waste of resources for a little immersion, but I think with the Switch's power they could do a lot more.

Imagine being able to use your pokemon's natural abilities to traverse the world or find hidden secrets. Like HMs except they don't take up moveslots and there are tons more uses. Example you could use fire pokemon to melt ice. Small flying pokemon to glide. There's a lot of potential.

But that's just the practical use, if we wanna be immersive, you could have your pokemon with idle animations or interact with the world (eg if it's near a pokemon or another npc they would interact).

And shouldermons. Who doesn't want shouldermons. You could have them track behind or beside you. They can hope on your shoulder whenever they feel like it. Aaah the potential.

I think these are realistic expectations for an adequate Switch Pokemon game, but I know that modern GF is so incompetent that they will fail to meet even these modest goals. I can't wait for yet another disappointment.

I agree with that, I'd rather have a simple but solid storyline that doesn't distract you from the main attraction.

That's a given. People hated it when GF restricted Pokemon transfers before.

No. I want them to focus on making interesting MC designs instead, and maybe let them change clothes. Gen 6/7 customization was a mistake.

Just make a fucking Japanese countryside, 1:1 in scale. That's what all classic Pokemon regions were supposed to be anyway.

Well, maybe not 1:1 but big enough to make the adventure feel epic without having too much downtime between the interesting moments. That would be a one of a kind experience.
The only question is: does GF have enough experienced map designers to make something like that?

Have you every actually walked through a rural area? You don't walk by an interesting setpiece every five minutes. Even Breath of the Wild is absolutely nothing to scale.

I lived in a rural area as a kid, and I remember finding a lot of interesting things just by exploring it. It doesn't have to be realistic, it just needs to be interesting, atmospheric and fun to explore.
Maybe I made I mistake when I talked about scale. I was trying to say that it should be way more detailed than what we saw in early gens.
