Regional rodents, regional birds, regional mew clone, regional legendary trio, regional psuedo etc. were a mistake.
They're pretty consistently the most uninteresting pokemon because they've all been done before and usually feel like repeats.
Psuedos could have been great but then they decided they should all be dragon types from gen 4 onward.
The mew clone thing at least sort of stopped.
