Cool, I figured I would have to trade some hackmons to have a chance. My only complaint is the level scaling appears fucked all over Kanto but it's not that big of a deal because I want to get to Mt Silver ASAP.

If you really wanna playa gen II game and not HGSS I'd say Crystal.
But for whatever reason a lot of really good Pokemon that were available in Gold and Silver aren't catchable in Crystal which is just completely retarded.
