Why is pokkén so underrated?
I've finally bought a witch a month ago and I've got more than 50 hours on this game.
Got in with the minimum possible expectations after seeing so many people shitting on this game, but it got me hooked.
It took a while to learn the basics, but it really is a good real-time-action pokémon fighter.
Reflexes aren't even so important, the rock/paper/scissor takes timing and choices and bluffing more into account than the former.

Do you like Pokkén?

I rushed conquest on a 22 hour ride during my depressive teenage period and it was lit

But pokkén is not so much of a spinoff as conquest was, I mean, TPCi said they want to put a lot of effort in pokkén. I really hope they don't drop it.

Reasons for the general amount of disinterest in Pokken DX:
>people (stupid ones) butthurt about the Direct not confirming Stars
>Wii U owners were burned by not getting the four arcade characters
>Super Smash Bros. exists, especially now
>requires two monitors for balanced local multiplayer
>the 3D <--> 2D setup makes it feel a bit weird, for casual and experienced players alike
>rosterfags who just want their bro in and probably think there is some unjust imbalance in the current roster

I used to think DLC confirmation would help the game a lot. Not showing Blastoise first and having only two new characters made the announcement a bit underwhelming, I think.

Anyway all that said I love Pokken. You a Scizor main too OP?

I dunno, I tried playing it and it felt less like Tekken and more like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm. It was fine, but nothing stellar.
With that said, I think it has a lot of potential. People just need more mons and polished mechanics.

I think the roster is fine for now. I was bummed about only 1 rep from gen 2 and 5 though, but those are just my favorite gens. I played chandelure a ton in the original, and I’ve been having fun with aegislash. More people do need to give this game a shot.

I've been playing Decidueye, Scizor, Croagunk and Sceptile.
Maxed Decidueye and Croagunk out, now I'm completely hooked with sceptile's kit and I might stick to him.

This game is a riot. I enjoy playing it and the roster has come a long way since the first release.

Problem is, there’s nothing to talk about. I main Weavile. I enjoy Machamp as well. Oh, you too? Cool. Who fucking cares? The only discussion it’ll ever generate is speculation on who to add next.

Or the nonsense of machamp damage on a fucking grab attack. At least charizard is way more predictable and probably doesn't even have as much damage as the former.

Pokken DX is just an enhanced port of the Wii U version which is the same as the Arcade version.Admittedly it's only been 2 years since the Wii U release but it would be nice to see an indication that Pokken 2 is coming soon instead of just adding DLC to a port of a game made for arcade machines 3 years ago. especially as the DLC characters have been added to the arcade version without being made available to those who bought the game on Wii U originally

You are correct it's nothing like Tekken, but it's even less like the Storm games: It IS a traditional fighting game, it's just closer to 2d ones like Street Fighter then plane based 3d ones like Tekken. The core gameplay in Pokken is mostly inside the 2d phase, the 3d stuff is pretty much just a mechanic on top of that.

The mechanics are already pretty polished. Look into the height and stance system and tech like Kara canceling or perfect blocking.

All of the actual diisscusion about the gameplay and the competitive scene happens on the community discord (discord.gg/pokken), is probably why. On one hand, that's good because it means anybody wanting toget into the game has only a single place they need to keep track of, but it also means that nobody outside of that community gets exposed to the game by people who know their shit.

I admit this is what happened to me. I bought it for WiiU and enjoyed very much. It's a great game, deep fighting mechanics and pretty fun online. But I wasn't going to pay another fucking $60 for it a year later. Fuck you Nintendo.

How do we expect Smash Switch to impact Pokken's scene? Hurt since it might lead to players focusing on that iinstead, or help since majors and locals wiill have more Switches for setups by virtue of Smash's popularity?

Have you all talked or considered reaching out to smash community people to collaborate on events as a way to get more attention going pokken's way in light of the announcement?

I want to like this game so fucking bad but I'm always so lukewarm to it. Plus I bought the Wii U version, played it for like 8 hours and then dropped it. Pokken is great competitively, or as a game to sink hundreds of hours into the MP for, but as a casual play every once in a while or single player title, it's shit.

If you do decide to get it, joining the community discord (discord.gg/pokken), even if it's just to lurk and keep up with new discoveries and events, is a mustt

I'd say, with the proper advertising, it'd actually boost our scene. More Switches at events is a good plus, and we can start going for Switch-only events with ARMS, Splatoon 2, Pokken DX, and Smash Switch.

Current discussions are focusing on directing relevant and important information to the right people at the right time. Accessibility is huge for us right now, progress on Shoryuken's wiki is going well, we got new Twitter tags to share tech, and some YouTubers (21 Hits, BadIntent, Mitchel) either upload situational tech or general guides and combos. We're trying to reach out as far as we can, I personally believe Smash Switch will help us (in the long run).

I think it's a little too demanding on the technical side and some of the mechanics are not that well thought out. Its probably great if you're both a hardcore Pokemon fan AND a hardcore fighting game fan, but those are few and far between. Something like a DBFZ clone or a Smash clone would probably end up being less alienating for the Pokemon fanbase, where most are not willing to spend 100 hours just to get gud at 1 character, especially if it isnt even their favorite mon.
