Zelda was going down an awful handholding linear black hole, and BotW gave the series a kick in the ass so I'm hoping GF realizes that a game can be mainstream succesful without having NPCs constantly spout cutscenes at you. Just add some structure to it, like have a world map with difficulty ratings, so players can go down an "intended route" or play out of order if they have a solid team down
