There's most likely going to be Blastoise footage at the official TPC tournament known as Spring Fist, which is in 3 days. This would be similar to how we got live Aegislash footage at Kanto 4, also sponsored by TPC.

Really, 22nd/23rd is the only chance, because with both Blastoise and Detective Pikachu releasing the next day/that day, it would be good. Start with Blastoise, then about Detective Pikachu, finish with Gen 8 teaser.

Remember August 2013 where there was 1 bug direct and 1 game-specific direct (The Wonderful 101)? What if this was the same for this month in the Switch era where there was the big direct with Smash and then a game-specifuc direct (Pokémon Direct)? It could happen. It at least happened once before.

It will be the first week of April.

Zeraora will be revealed in a movie trailer at the end of March.

The Direct will reveal the new Eevolution and tease the starters. Outside of that no new Pokemon are shown.

I would personally be surprised if Blastoise dropped without any video footage prior, but TPCI and GameFreak and Nintendo can’t always be predicted. It’s possible that a Direct could air on Thursday night or Friday with Pokken footage and “Blastoise is available right after this Direct” or something. If we don’t get an announcement before the 23rd, I’ll be that we won’t get anything until April at least. The last week of March could happen, but missing out on the pre-DLC 2 opportunity would seem weird.

Detective Pikachu has already gotten a fair amount of coverage for what it's worth (a spinoff), and that leaves the Blastoise gameplay up for a 2-minute trailer by itself.
Pokémon on the Switch can wait.

It's a spinoff game on which they are shooting a movie. They want this game to work, and they want this game to hype up the movie.

That's already more than a usual Pokemon Direct.
>XY direct: 11 mins, mostly preamble about Pokemon history
>SM direct: 6 mins, similar preamble, SM reveal, VC reveal
>USUM direct: 8 mins, mostly Pokken
So they can easily fill a direct with just Pokemon Switch if they wanted.
