Yeah, nah, he was always a moron who got carried by his gift mons. No actually good trainer would neglect his mons, quit in the middle of a play tournament, or twice get owned by someone obviously superior.

Paul was great because he made Ash doubt himself, his philosophy and ability. A true rivalry. While he ultimately defeated him, Paul also showed that you can in fact be great without "the power of love and trust" and shit like that. It was shown time and time again that a lot of Paul's pokemon not only trusted him, but probably loved him because of his harsh style. Chimchar actually WANTED Paul to be harsh because Chimchar was ambitious. I think it is clear in Paul's types and teams that he is not the only one who is ambitious, his pokes are too. And the pokes with Paul's brother seemed really sad about the news that he lost.

Sums up the flaws of the anime quite well, and claiming the teamwork with Chimchar is feeble since that's no different from a normal battle.

Paul didn't even use his most powerful Pokemon against Ash in the league battle. He held back as much as Kalos Ash did in that tournament.
He had the best character arc of any rival/antagonist and all the adults in the audience knew Paul was right and Ash was probably wrong/naiive.

Not all legendaries have an actual legend assigned to them, and those are the ones that you usually see multiples of. Usually if there's a legend, it specifies that there's only one.
From what we know for sure, there's only one Arceus, Ho-Oh and Yveltal. There are probably only one of the Tapus and Necrozma.

Paul exposed Ash in a way that few others have: that he isn't a good battler when he's not using fast, hard-hitting Pokemon. Many of Torterra's losses came from Ash mismanaging a slow, defense-oriented mon.
The only reason Ash ever won with Snorlax is Snorlax has an unparalleled ability to sponge damage and use six moves.

Paul knew he couldn't defeat Cynthia.
His main goal was to use tactics to bring down her Ace. If his plan worked, defeating a Champion's ace with his team of unevolved Pokemon, he would have called off the battle, insulted Cynthia's competence and left satisfied.
