Random encounters look like shit in HD 3D games - you're just walking in an empty room and then SUDDENLY the game screeches to a halt and you have to fight for no reason. Visually it looks ridiculous because 3D is never a visual approximation of something complex like 2D. Just remember how shit random encounters were in DQ8, and how they were fixed in the 3DS version by showing enemies on the overworld maps.
I think GF should at least let you see the enemies in dungeons (overworld has grass so it's fine).

There isn't a single modern 3D JRPG that uses random encounters. Even fucking Neptunia doesn't have them. I'm sure GF realizes that.
Something has to change, and I'm pretty sure something will. Overworld probably won't change (because tall grass works fine visually), but dungeons have to be reworked.
