Shitmon run: Pick the 6 fully evolved mons with lowest BST available. That's your end team.
Naturally, box your starter as soon as you catch anything else.
A bit of grinding is ok, but not to the point of being overleveled.

NFE run (base form edition): use whatever starter and everything else you want, but only mons that can evolve - but won't.
Preferably, get 3-stage mons, and keep them at base stage.

The internal batteries have a tendency to go out after a few years. Just be aware that your save can disappear at any moment. It's one reason why I moved on to emulators.
