>>35139727>Ever see a bird skeleton? Looks like the bird it’s from. Or a croc skeleton? You can tel it’s a croc. Okay, but what does that have to do with Arvalis' art looking like the shrinkwrapping meme? Work on your reading comprehension.
>>35139754Well, here's my problem with Arvalis. At its most basic, his art process works like this:
1. Take a Pokemon and a related animal
2. Put the features of the Pokemon on the animal
This is actually pretty good, especially if you think of it as Pokemon/animal fusions rather than realistic Pokemon. It also produces fucking awesome things like the magnecrabs and frogdudes, I have nothing against these. But if the appeal of his art is "animals with Pokemon features", then I expect his creatures to look like, well, animals. That illusion is ruined in things like Nidoking or Typhlosion because he tries to make them sleek and vicious and cool in a decidedly non-mammalian way, so instead of drawing, say, a stocky purple bat, he ends up with some kind of death gremlin that looks like neither a bat nor Gengar.
He excels at sea life, reptiles and insects for that reason, since you can draw a metal album cover and it would still kind of work for a rove beetle Giratina. But holy shit, just show him a real dog or something once.
