There are still two more "predicted" dates, the 23rd and 29th, but I don't expect much to come from those dats, Generation VII can go on for another year, I don't mind, I'm not salty with Gen VII at all, so it doesn't bother me. If Pokémon Switch does come out this year, don't whine if they don't meet your standards.

Most of the first months are spent doing nothing. Masuda apalogized when we didn't get any SM info until may. They are going to want to advertise grn 8 as much as they can. They can't spend 3 months doing nothing. Thats why March-April is the perfect time to reveal gen 8

They could have said that for Gen 4 and Gen 2 (both new consoles) but they didn't. Gen 4 was projected for a 2005 release when it was announced in Q4 2004. Gen 3's main plot of anime had already long finished by that time and was already in the Hoenn league, not to mention the Deoxys movie hadn't released either. By your logic, they can cut anime short whenever - but the reality is that they don't. Typically the new generation of the anime starts within a month of the new generation's game being released.

Does the merch get released or just announced? I've never heard of gen-specific merch releasing before the game itself has. I don't think I've heard it as being announced on the same month of the gen being announced either, but there may be an exception to that.

I'd guess Eevee's will be Sakura-themed given that the Eevee date is the same as the Vernal Equinox and the day the cherry blossom trail starts this year. Or it might be something at the new Pokemon centre that just opened up last week. The Snorlax distribution ends on the 22nd.

Masuda has already said that the entirety of the franchise moves as a whole in time with each other. The games don't dictate the anime, rather they are planned to start and finish at the same time.

As far as I'm aware, they're trying to promote the movie - given that it is about a Lugia that only knows flying type moves. I don't see anything hinting towards an Eeveelution and it seems unlikely given that Zeraora hasn't been announced yet.

Potentially, but it's very unlikely considering a new arc has just started (Ultra Guardians). The tone is more Slice-of-Life than the anime usually is so far, so I'm assuming the focus will be on that for a while.

Not really, the flying theme is being pushed because the movie is about a Lugia that only knows flying-type moves - that
is central to the plot. What you're suggesting isn't logical at all, because it assumes the last gen 7 Pokemon will be unveiled in the same movie as the first gen 8 Pokemon, despite said gen 7 Pokemon having barely any relevance to the plot at all. It'd also be the first time that a generation has only had 2 movies. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but it'd be totally unprecedented - which is not a logical conclusion to jump to at all.

It also assumes that the first gen 8 Pokemon to be revealed is an Eeveelution, which is also unprecedented.

Not quite, if you watch the latest episodes you should be able to see what I mean. So far the S/M anime has been focused on travelling around the islands, in the latest arc it seems to be taking a break from that.

I didn't say it was, but when you put things into perspective things certainly look different. What do we have going for the 2018 theory?

-The few mentions of '2018 or later' by Nintendo? OK, but as evidenced here: >>35147847 it's not unheard of for Pokemon games to have been announced as one year and to be released another. Those very announcements in fact were from GameFreak directly (Not even Nintendo) and didn't even project 'Or later', they were outright announced for the dates they didn't release in.

-The job listings evidence tends to fall apart when you actually look at the source (TPC Careers page) and see the 12 month contract entries for Localization specialists and the fact that the 6 month contracts are all minimum 6 month contracts. It is quite funny to me that the twitter user who constructed the infographics purposely took the time to omit the word 'Minimum' from his copy and paste, presumably because it doesn't fit his narrative.

What else is there? Masuda on his keyboard? Well we already know from previous interviews that he alternates between game development and music composition depending on how he feels.

I'm not saying you shouldn't believe in 2018, but when I look closely at the facts, history and interviews with GameFreak themselves saying that they're waiting for kids to buy a Switch in Christmas 2017 to decide on how the core gameplay should work (GameInformer Interview August 2017) - The release date of 2018 seems unlikely.

But it's a free country, I'm not gonna give you shit for it - we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Ultimately we both share the same desire for a good mainline Pokemon Game on the Switch.

Not official Nintendo goods. A third-party merchandiser with rights to Pokemon likenesses wouldn't be privy to the information as to when a new game is announced. Neither GameFreak or Nintendo would share that information with a third party.

We've been over this - 12 month fixed term contracts for Localization specialists who need to be there for the whole project, 6 month minimum fixed term contracts for the freelancers who work directly with them - that's pretty common over here (London) where the jobs take place. Freelancers rarely do 12 month contracts, especially translators and localization editors.

It isn't because the positions for localization don't start until April the earliest, July the latest. Not to mention that if July is the latest expected date to have localization complete and they're on 6 month contracts, that means their contracts would end in January/February.

That doesn't really matter though, because as mentioned - the music is worked on alongside the development, it doesn't happen at any particular stage in development. We know this from a previous interview where he specifically addresses this.

I personally don't think that constitutes an Eeveelution hint, that's just the plot of the movie.

dates don't really mean anything. We've had release dates from GameFreak themselves that have been wrong by a year, I wouldn't take anything mentioning dates as gospel, especially as Nintendo can only get projected dates from GameFreak anyway.

That's Lugia, you hear it after she says she'll protect it.

The movie isn't even central to the girl with Eevee, she is just one of the various stories of the townspeople of furu city (She's a rookie trainer who can't get her Eevee to behave). I might sound a bit jaded here, but I think it's plain to see how the movie is going to go - everyone will have their individual problem solved somehow by Lugia visiting the town at the peak of the Wind Festival.

I think you might be overestimating Eevee's role in this (And also basic cinematic imagery) but hey ho.

So far we haven't had a solid projection of 2018. As much as I love Reggie, I wouldn't consider his word the be all and end all of Pokemon. The investor report from Nintendo will get its information from GameFreak who much like Ishihara said at E3, it'll either be 2018 or later. I don't think anyone is purposely lying to anyone, they're just getting dates from the developer - who are GameFreak. GameFreak have said 2018 or later and that's the only thing close to an official date we have.

For what it's worth, I don't think it's completely impossible that the game could release in 2018 (Especially if it's not a new gen at all but a R/B remake/revisit or something, which I think is scarily plausible) but it'd be off-the-charts unprecedented for a new gen with new Pokemon to release this year looking at previous gen timelines, recent interviews about the games' development and the fact that the job listings don't actually make sense when you look at them without confirmation bias (or worse yet, from a 3rd party source who purposely omits important facts while trying to make it look like a direct cut & paste). I've got plenty of games to keep me occupied either way, so I don't really have any stake on when I'd like it to release, 'When it's done' is fine by me.

There's constantly new merch of Eevee coming out, that's the sole purpose of the Eevee project. Look at the Eevee mug in the new Pokémon centre in Nihonbashi as just one small example. If you visit the Pokémon centres regularly you'll know there's branded 'Eevee project' merch every season.

E3 can be your crawl out of a rock day; the rest is hotly contested with no sign of slowing down.
