When Cities from Gen 1 and 2 on the fucking GB have larger more interesting designs you have a problem.

I can't think of any other Pokemon city this painfully linear, aside from other Alolan cities. This is probably the worst one in the entire series. And there are STILL roadblocks to make sure even the stupidest paint chip-eating kid won't get lost.

Ocean City, MD, is about three blocks wide and a hundred and seventy long. It has the ocean on one side, and a bay on the other, being on this ultra narrow peninsula makes it fit where there is space.

Heahea is built along a road that is built beside a mountain. Everything is crammed in to the narrow occupiable strip of land because the goddamn hotel owner bought half the habitable space.

Exactly. This is made even worse by the fact that Alola only has a handful of towns, which would be fine if 2 of them weren't literally straight lines.

I'm still pissy about how little exploration this game has.
Even things like Blue telling you that you need badges to go further this way were better, because at least I could go in and check and be kicked out as well. Rather than having a Stoutland block my way for no good resaon.

Fuck me I hated that shit. Literally every time you got to a new area some asshole would come up and talk to you for ages, then as soon as they were gone you would walk 5 steps and come across another asshole who wants to waste your time. Not that it mattered in the end anyway because any direction other than the one they wanted you to go was blocked either by faggotry, a trial gate or a type of terrain you didn't have the PokéRide for. I enjoyed Sun for the most part and I've enjoyed the parts of Ultra Moon that weren't ripped directly from Moon (what little of those there are for 80% of the game), but fuck me I came to this region to explore, if you're going to make me follow your set path then just do away with the open world aspect and have linear levels.

It matters because an RPG should be about exploring.

If you're handed everything on a straight line are you really playing an RPG or are you just playing a designated set of A button presses?

I'm not saying Pokemon is that exactly, but every dumbed down detail gets closer to that reality.

Anyhow, IDGAF Sun / Moon is a fantastic game and what we lost in exploration we gained in literally everything else.

Ever been to the beach, OP? There's almost always a street running parallel to the coast nearby.

If you're upset about the scale of the city then go look at Lumiose. They tried to make a decently-sized city on 3DS and it was a fucking mess.
