No not that they have to be unused as i said there are other pokemon that resemble the same creature. but to be a starter i think it has to standout more, even if purely for marketing purposes, and with a octopus or lobster theres only so much you could do really i feel. rowlet ended up being the whole grass/ archer thing other owls hadnt done. so yeah it could be done definitely but i just wonder if theyd go over stuff theyve gone over before?

They could, and some of the ones that have been done could've been done better. what i'm saying is i think that it'd be more likely to be another animal first, or if they do chose to redo one then theyd have to come up with something thats new and not immediately obvious about lobster/crab/octopus. which probably would be to hard considering how humanoid new starters become compared to when crab/octopus were just animal pokemon.

Then you must have no idea about the amount of water based life forms in this world, they out number land based life greatly. I do understand that as land based life the other side is really outside of our understood paradigm, but trust me aquatic life is vast and gf will run out of water Pokemon much later than most other types.

I don't think it's real, Despite the obvious issue of colour palettes between the 3 being too close it's pretty clear they used Pikachu as a reference for the platypus. I couldn't find the source for some of the originals but I'm sure if you swapped the blue for yellow they'd pop up.

Not to mention how the fuck do you market a lobster/crab?

I think a Polar Bear or Platypus would be good, also a bird like a crane or stork would be neat, Hurricrane would be a great pokemon name.

Yeah it is a really neat design, Marill and Dedenne have completely different proportions from Pikachu and were made to look similar. I just think someone used Pikachu to try and emulate the pokemon artstyle.

Biggest damning piece of evidence though is that GF never listens to their fans who have been asking for the platypus starter forever.

Yeah I ment marill and dedenne are similar to each other. So if the pikachu worked then there couldve been a slim chance they thought lets update it but draw from its design.
gamefreak seem to have no set reasoning behind things, youd think such a massive franchise would hold more consumer reviews and take ideas on board more often.
Im sure this platypus will turn up in some fan game eventually.

Oh yeah, there's a pretty big difference though with being similar and using another pokemon as a direct reference which they generally haven't done since gen 1, evolution lines being the exception
