Honestly I've had this idea of rebooted types for quite awhile. For example: As it stands, there is no real room for a Cosmic or Light type. But if you DELETED Psychic and Fairy from existence, there would now be room for Magic, Cosmic and Light types.
I'm not saying this is a better idea, just different. I love Psychic, an it's very important to the series if you think back to Gen I, but you cannot deny that Psychic has been slapped on to too many Pokémon, and is used as a sort of catch-all umbrella for far too many aesthetic concepts that, if removed from Psychic, could be their own type.
Another idea: Erase Poison type, and replace it with Nuclear, which is basically "Poison but science-ier". Or you could merge Dark and Fighting into some sort of Hellish/Blood/Aggressive/Demonic type. Again not necessarily better ideas here, but we're at the point where there is no room left for new types, and if they want things to feel fresh again, it might behoove them to straight-up remove types to make way for others.
