Why do they do this? What is the point of having two functionally equivalent abilities?

Golisopod's ability should've been forcing the opponent to switch when they drop below half health. It would've been balanced out by his low speed.

The games as a whole had story and mechanic elements that also disappointed me, but since the pokemon of a new generation are what I care for the most, gen 7's pokemon are my biggest disappointment with the franchise.

Also, I forgot to mention oricorio. The way they handled its gimmick is infuriating, even if I knew it wasn't gonna be good, they made it shit.

I didn't have even close to that experience. It was pretty rare that wild pokemon would do that much damage to force me to run, but I feel like it's pointless to grind random encounters anyway, the exp curve makes them give pitiful amounts of experience and trainers should probably give you just about as much experience as you need, once you finish off all of the trainers, golisopod can then just first impression plenty of wild pokemon before they have a chance to attack

I would say in game is the only time golisopod shines becasue the AI is to stupid to switch out of first impressions

Even the change they made in USUM kind of sucks, because they made Vikavolt learn Bug Buzz at level 31 or some shit, so unless you want to make it to the elite 4 without a bug buzz and a vikavolt that only knows thunder bolt and mirror shot, you have to get to that one power plant with an underleveled charjabug

Golisopod is awesome in-game, what're you talking about?
Grinding in the tall grass is unnecessary most of the time, so it potentially fucking up some wild encounter is almost irrelevant.

I don't know why they can't just be super rare in one area in the earlyish part of the game. Gens 6/7 did decently with this regarding old mons (Axew in the cave before 2nd gym in 6, Bagon on first island after you get surf, Larvitar in Diglett Cave in 7).

Yeah, you can definitely use heart scales, but there's a lot between that powerplant and the elite 4 where bug buzz would help, and all you really have is thunderbolt

I'm still working on a nuzlocke and I have Chargabug on my team (about to traverse the cemetery on the second island) in US, so I haven't experienced how hampered it is without Bug Buzz, but I'm glad I read this thread, because it's level 28 and now I know to put it out of commission until I get to the power plant. You'd think at least level 40 would be appropriate for a move as good as Bug Buzz.

I assume you're referring to the absolute shitshow that happens when you fight it (as I've heard). I've been on this nuzlocke since release (stopped playing for months after the first island) so I haven't seen it myself, but I know I'm going to have to basically train a team specifically to cheese the fight with toxic stall, since I don't want my entire main team to get swept before the E4.

Surprisingly I'm doing much better than my Sun nuzlocke. I never lost so many mons in a run than I did in Sun (like 25, I think, 10 in the second island alone).

the worst is when a pokemon doesn't even learn a decent STAB, especially if it'd make sense for it to learn a certain move. Take rapidash, all it has are flame wheel (weak) and flare blitz (recoil). Why doesn't it learn blaze kick? It's a horse with legs enveloped in flames, ffs.

This bug needs a split evo that just lets it evolve into a bigger and tougher pondskater with a good learnset and stats and you can save it. Maybe in Gen 4 but fuck if GF will ever care about surskit in 2018
