to me =

Normalize stats so, with a few outliers, things in the same tier have the same stat total. IE all first stage things have a range then all second stage have a range then all third stage. Things with only two stages all fit into a split range of top of the second stage and bottom of the third stage.
Clean items, many items are just redundant and/or useless. Make plates, memories, z-crystals, etc all the same item with multiple being purchasable if you need more. Remove things like cleanse tag, incense, mystic water, that all serve the same purpose of boosting a type, all z-plate-memories now also boost that type of attacks by a set amount.
combine the nidorans, machoke only evolves if traded for a graveler, eevee can only use stones to evolve, open up other mons to be able to use stones while at certain levels, IE charmeleon can evolve with a fire stone but only if it is between 16-20, doing this usually makes you miss out on some moves.
