>>35172327I'm sure there's a lot more shady shit going on with movies. I remember going to watch Annabelle Creation after seeing that it had a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, but was disappointed to see that it was a pretty mediocre horror movie. Turns out what happened was that they'd embargoed all reviewers except for a select few they knew were very likely to give it good scores. After release, when the embargo was lifted, scores dropped immediately, but it doesn't matter because they already got their box office success.
Anyways, I generally take a score between 70 and 80 for a game as being 'good if you're into that stuff, unless it's a triple A game in which case it will probably be terrible'. Scores around 50 usually mean a game has awful flaws and isn't fun to play, and if you get lower it's probably a broken mess, but it may be fun because of that.
But honestly game reviews these days really are a joke. There's a review for the new Radiant Historia remake that claims it's awesome and amazing but spends 80% of the text praising how great it is that you can skip all the battles, which translates to 'I loved the game but I didn't like playing it' (which is weird because it was great and not tedious even on normal difficulty). There's another guy who says SMT IV is great but you have to play on easy mode because it's literally impossible otherwise.
As for Detective Pikachu I'll wait until it's been out for a while.
