Anyway heres mine. I'm playing through white 2 again to get the two free shinies. Got the Haxorus from the nature preserve now I'm finishing the hollow to get the dratini. Whats a good nature for a non marvel scale non e speed trophy dratini? Nickname? "Trash?"

I'm training up a horsea in platinum and training up my scyther in soul silver.

My last shiny was a vulpix! I found him in the grass south of the safari zone in platinum. It was another amazing experience honestly, totally unexpected, as I was levelling up my pokemon there and then suddenly a beautiful shiny vulpix was in front of me ready to be caught.

Got it on emerald on emulator 6 years ago. Lately I got an R4 so figured I would transfer my teams. To get this guy I used the save file of heart gold that was on the R4 already, and migrated the pokemon with desume. Then into the flashcart and to a real soul silver game.

It really feels like a cruel joke that Articuno's best stats are it's defenses when it has a literal glass tier typing.

4x weakness to rock
2x weakness to electric
2x weakness to steel
2x weakness to fire

A well trained Duck Lycanroc with Accelrock can one shot it. That being said, it's one of my favorite pokemon and shinies that I have.

A Deerling in White I found when it first came out, which was funny because it switches colors anyway. Both shinies have been lost to the ages.

So yeah, obviously it's been a while and since I'm playing Sapphire right now I figure I'll give it a try after beating the Elite 4.
Any methods for hunting in Sapphire? I'm playing on the original hardware with a dead battery. Any cool shinies you like from Gen III?

You are misinformed. On the contrary, it works on almost anything in the wild, provided you have a synch lead and perfectly time a Sweet Scent. For legendaries, you have to perfectly time the encounter.

ivs and natures of the shiny will always be the same if you use the same frame. I use a frame that has 8/10ths of a second before the frame to hit a sweet scent in.

Synchronize advances the encounter to the next available frame with said nature when it activates, it cannot move backwards, only forwards.

True. I don't play competitive so I don't really care. It's one of the best designs in my opinion. Very simple but still able to convey everything the pokemon is about.

And I was playing through w2 anyways I got a used copy. I might as well snag two guaranteed shinies. I soft reset to get a haxor with perfect attack and speed ivs, jolly. I dont know about tini tho. Maybe mild or rash for a special based mixed?

Yes that's me. Someone pls end it. I started shindy hunting half a year ago, because I wanted a shiny Charizard and now I cant stop. It's kinda fun and i enjoy collecting the pokemon, but the real reason why I keep going is because I have this nagging feeling inside my head that will only be satisfied once i have all shiny pokemon.

Why are you guys hunting them? You can create them with an app or edit save games. They will still count as real pokemon, if edited properly, and can be uploaded to the pokebank. Do you feel this makes hunting them pointless?

Is the activity itself, of getting into repeated encounters, fun? Or are you focusing entirely on the end goal of, at one point, catching all of the shinies?

me personally, hunting is a really good way to take my mind off of shit. the longer the hunt the better. it’s also super exciting to legitimately find them in the older games where they’re much more rare. the act of encountering over and over isn’t inherently necessarily fun in the same way that maybe a challenge run or something can be, but it’s comfy and entertaining. it’s also really easy to do while watching shows or whatever. i am working on a living shiny dex, but it’s something that doesn’t need to happen immediately or anything, so i’m not concerned with how long a particular hunt takes

i don’t feel like injecting etc makes them worthless - i inject stuff for battle spot on the regular, sometimes shiny, sometimes not. i know what i’ve hunted and what has value to me :~)

Thing is, for some people no matter how you slice it, using an app or editing just doesn't count as legit. The game might recognize it as such but the player doesn't value it the same. It's definitely a thing of personal value, people put more value on something they worked hard to obtain and such even if there's an "easier way" that does away with the reason why it was valuable in the first point

Past 36 pokemon it's 13/4096 with the shiny charm it's 15/4096

for breeding with the charm AND a forgin pokemon is a 1/512 shot of a shiny, it's the best method if you want shinies that are also usable in battle because not only do you have better control over your EVs, you can control the nature as well

I recommend getting the Oval Charm as well to increase the egg spawning rate and stock up on Rotom Boost Hatchs to make it go quicker.

In my opinion, SOS chaining is the worst method for shiny hunting because you can't control the EVs or nature nearly as much and it involves far more work and attention than soft resetting and breeding.

Good luck, the true test is how strong your patience is. Some people get their shinies in a day, others a week and some even months.

There's also another method called RNG manipulation and it doesn't even require custom firmware or mods to your 3DS, I consider it also a legitimate method because even if you do everything right, you still need luck to hit those frames, even more so to match up the clock hands, even with a good camera with frame by frame viewing it's still just one of the toss ups you'll have to do.

There's also egg viewing, where if you know your TSV, Trainer Shiny Value, you can see which eggs will produce a shiny pokemon before it even hatches, Of course to see this value you need a powersave or someone with it to tell you and even then, you need to view the egg's numbers, which can get tedious

Chance caps at 5000, with 10, 19 and 36% chance depending on the rings.

At 2.5k for example the chances are a bit under half of the above.

Story time: I've been building a shiny team for an UM playthrough and had already hunted an Eevee and turned it into an Espeon. Then I went to the stats judge and I found out he has mittens Sp. Att. IV's and my autism said no to using it for a playthrough. This fluffy little fucker popped up about an hour ago and I'm currently working on his friendship to evolve it into Espeon again.
