>>35181677It was a kid's show, but it still had some deep moments. The human characters themselves were stagnated shits, but the Pokemon had plenty of room to evolve, grow and have a proper ending to their stories, as unlike Ash, they can be replaced. So that's what Shudo focused on. But I won't say it was actually good, because it had one major flaw.
They had good ideas, they were just too drawn out to work. Charizard, for example, took 30-ish episodes to turn into a dick, and another 50-ish episodes to complete his character arc and come to treat Ash nicer. That's way too long. You can fit 3 full anime in that amount of time, all with full casts of well developed characters. Drawing it out like that sucked life out of everything. It felt too slow, too boring.
But despite that, I'll give the writing credit for being competent. It was just paced way too badly for that competence to truly shine.
