Mechanical gimmicks have always been optional. You can use the d-pad and buttons to navigate menus rather than the touchscreen, you don't have to have the 3D on, etc.

That's gonna be pretty awesome. Same with fishing and the itemfinder. As for Amiibo if they do anything I'm sure it won't be anything more than giving you a few items or triggering a wild encounter with whatever you scanned, assuming it isn't something absurd like Mewtwo.

Pokemon hasn't done anything with Amiibo yet, so that, probably.

I don't get why they don't go the Animal Crossing route with it. You could have Amiibo cards for every pokemon that double as TCG cards for cross promotion if you wanted. Or sell Pokemon plush that come with amiibo tokens or something.

I had thought about them using it in the new Amie/Refresh to pet them and whatnot when docked, but I hadn't thought about that. That's a great idea as long as, again, it's only when docked.
