Bulbasaur looked very sad and had rounded ears.
Ivysaur looked like a dog (and it was bipedal).
Venusaur was giant toad on 4 little limbs. It also had dark patches like it prevos instead of pimples.
Personally I like the front sprites of each, but their backsprites are awful.
