>>35197315There are plenty of games where you can customize your characters hugely and they for some reason are not called "RPGs", because the title has no meaning. Drawn to life for example lets you completely make your character, as in draw him yourself, same for his weapons, but it is still just called a side scrolling action game since thats what you do with your made character. Are you saying if you could choose the name of Mario or Sonic at the beginning, the games would then be rpgs even though all gameplay after that is the same as when it was called a side scrolling platformer? And when I say battling is what you spend the majority of the time doing, I meant what the average person does/what is expected of them. You play the game walking from town to town and walking through grass and battling people like normal and beat it, you spent the majority of your time battling. What else is there to do, especially before breeding was introduced? You can spend the majority of your time maneuvering through the menus in tons of games too but obviously most people spend their time actually fighting or whatever the game is about. And yes almost any game can fall into the title of a role playing game. Chess and Dynasty Warriors are both army battling games, regardless of how they handle battles. Same as how you are saying Pokemon is still a rpg regardless of how they handle battles. What matters is the actual gameplay, not some label, especially not a meaningless one like rpg, and the gameplay of turn based to action game is a huge change no matter if it keeps the pokemon skin.
