Honestly, nothing. You either like having an archer owl as a buddy or you aren't fond of it. Starters are designed to appease different tastes.

In terms of in game, the food in alola seemed to slow everything down.

Terrible stat spread, Hidden Ability is pointless.

It has a way too high Sp. Attack that has little to no moves that take advantage of it. As for its ability, contact hazards are the least of its problems when it's both slow and frail, and it has access to a lot of non-contact moves anyway.
