Once and for all, I need proof: when did pokemon switch start development? People say 2015 but I can't find a single source for that.

How are we suppose to know the exact time and date you retard.

They got the Switch Dev kit in 2015, so when they got that, that's when they could start programming a game, so programming could have started as soon as then, but they may have had concepts on paper well before that, WE DON'T KNOW.

Also, your pic, just because the Pokemon boss thought that, doesn't mean they "waited" like many think, Nintendo is in charge, not him, they say make a game, they make a game.

It's a callback to an earlier interview where he was asked if the Switch was the future of Pokemon and basically said "maybe someday, but first we want to see how people use the Switch before we start developing anything for it".

None of that is true. For starters, Ishihara is the head of TPC. TPC is owned by Nintendo, Creatures, and Game Freak and do marketing and copyright protection. You see a side game or an ad or a DMCA notice on a video or fan made game about Pokémon and you're seeing him in action.

Also, Nintendo is just the publisher and part owner via the trademarks. Game Freak makes the main series games and doesn't answer to anyone. If they want to stop making the games then no one, including Nintendo, can force them to. It would effectively end the series if they wished since GF are the ones who make new species.

Thanks to Japanese culture and how the series got started they can almost certainly exert some control over GF, but GF is not legally required to listen to them.

Sources are Masuda's twitter when he tweeted his diary marking XY's production in 2010 and old Iwata asks interviews on the Nintendo website (HG/SS interviews in particular, but all the GF interviews give an insight into how the studio works vis-a-vis game development) Go look yourself, I don't speak moonrune enough to scroll back 8 years nor to go looking for the technologically inept

Getting a dev kit doesn't mean you immediately start making a game. In 2015 the 3DS was still a huge focus for GF with the development of gen7, so if they did get one ASAP, it's unlikely they did anything substantial with it.

It takes them a year to make a game, according to older games. So they will end this game in June 2018 at the latest. Which means this game won't be released in 2018, but most of the chances that this game will be released in spring 2019 and not in november 2019.

If they thought it would take 18-24 months to finish these games after announcement, they wouldn't have been so optimistic with the estimation - they would say flat out "It'll still take us a long while yet, but it's coming". Wording on that statement was vague enough to support "2018 or later", yet still concise enough to let us know when they're planning to be finished.

Just search for the GameInformer interviews from last year. They spend a week or so in the headquarter of GF and said, there was a development team allready working parallel to Utrasun/Ultramoon on the switch game. It has to be in the development since early 2017 or longer.

Also, aren't dedicated handheld consoles, like the 3DS, the ones that would see the biggest hit from the rise of portable gaming
The Switch is the best way to compete in the portable electronic market
They basically made a gaming tablet, and started competing in that space, because there's no way they could compete with smartphones
