>>35213290Have you considered the possibility that the parents of a newborn mimikyu just make a costume for it and put it on the egg so that the baby gets into it as soon as it hatches? It doesn't really need to understand why it wears a cloth or what a pikachu is, its parents will take good care of putting those ideas on its head soon enough. It could be a species of unhealthily indoctrinated individuals.
Alternatively, have you considered that maybe mimikyus are spirits born out of jealousy? they may not have babies as you understand the term, maybe they just spawn from the ill will of a human or pokemon's envy or loneliness. It wouldn't be weird for a ghost pokemon of all things to be born this way. Maybe they're tiny poltergeists at first but they move around getting stronger (alone from birth, which may justify their habits even more) and they make their rags out of different elements they can find (shedded skin, a cottonee's fluff, actual fabric, etc.), but the player can't possibly ever appreciate these unique differences in each costume because it is a lore detail almost impossible to translate into a game mechanic.
Or even, maybe they are discarded pikachu merchandise inhabited by a spirit unaware of this origin. Unlikely, but think banette: it supposedly comes from a discarded doll, yet it has a naturally occurring pre-evolution and no kid I know would play with a doll that looked as creepy as banette: it is a possibility that shuppets morph into banette upon making contact with a doll and they don't remember this, thinking they were always the doll and seeking revenge. Mimikyu might be similar. This is a stretch, I know.
The point is, pokemon that don't make sense go as far back as fucking bulbasaur being planted a seed at birth. You either are autistic and imaginative enough to try and come up with lore explanations or you don't think about it at all, but just making threads saying it's dumb comes off as kinda pointless.
