what are some good pokemon-like games?

romhacks/fakemons are ok, but i'd rather have recommendations of 100% original titles (indies or not)

Best part is - you don't have to abandon your bros in the post game - you can farm stimulants in the post game to put them up to speed with the endgame mons.

hacker's memory/cyber sleuth is far more elaborate as far as the monster raising is involved, but both have some level scaling issues in some pockets of the game that can be somewhat unforgiving.

Final Fantasy's is far simpler and the gameplay is more balanced, but unless you've played a lot of Final Fantasy games a lot of its fanservice/charm would be lost on you.

I really wish the other versions would get patched in english.

The Comic Bom Bom version is the most complete one from what I understand and had better visuals overall - save for the main character art which was a very poor attempt at making a low res version of the manga art

DQM joker is great, i love the fusion/building mechanics (cant remember what it was called) some of the designs are laughable though but i love them still. if you like pokemon + dragon ball youll still like them. if you watched the original dragon ball and not just dbz you mightve realized some original db designs for one-off characters were weird as shit. dragon quest monsters monsters are basically those.

Battle system is turn based with you and your monster, and revolves around a rock paper scissors type of attack with Power beating Technical beating Speed beating Power.

You gain new monsters by hatching eggs that you obtain by entering monster dens, which act as randomly generated dungeons once entered.

Resource collecting is just like in regular monster hunter, but the weapon system is greatly simplified. The monster gene system is more than complex enough to make up for that though.

Yokai don't follow the same design philosophies as Pokemon.
You can't really compare the two like that, except to say that you just prefer one over the other.

But you can say that Yokais have a much greater variety despite having a much smaller number. Plus most Yokais have some lore/joke/cultural reference behind them, so it's even educational if you're willing to dig a bit.
