Sure, the generation one groups don't argue about it as much because, well, they're fully grown adults that don't NEEd to waste their time arguing about it, since they're well passed those years and are looking back more to reminisce.
It's the same for every generation. As pokémon got more over-the-top, the fanbase started to follow the generation they grew up with. it's why I think a lot of fangames are also so over the top, or why people will ignore some design choices in pokémon/characters/story for the sake of their favorite generation being considered good.
Ultimately, it's not about what's objectively correct or who's subjectively right either. Isn't it just about enjoying a series that was a part of almost all of our childhoods?
